Mr. Park, Ki-seok (박기석), is the first ethnic Korean (South Korean, that is!), who with Australian citizenship, to obtain an PhD in Korean Linguistics Studies from North Korea’s most prestigious university: Kim Il-Sung University.
Why the heck would someone who already has an undergrad degree from a Korean university, and a Master’s in Education from Melbourne University want a PhD from KIS? Because he saw some some articles from North Korea’s Worker’s Newspaper, and got interested in their language patterns. So what other choice was there to remain?
